Welcome to BIRTHFIT, RSH!

When I got pregnant in 2013, I was surprised - yet thrilled. My husband and I had been married 5 minutes. Ok, maybe that is an exaggeration, but we got married in October and found out we were expecting in November. So, yeah, it was quick.

As a CrossFit coach, I had always envisioned staying active during my pregnancy, but wasn’t quite sure where to go for advice on lifting, metcons, nutrition and more. A lot of research I did said, I shouldn’t lift more than 10 pounds (WHAT?!), or that I shouldn’t eat fish (even though it’s an excellent source of Omega-3 and has low risk of danger to baby). And then I found BIRTHFIT.

Lindsey and her BIRTHFIT vision was a breath of fresh air for me. She had programming full of scaling options written for pregnancy, a chiropractic background that helped me understand what was happening to my skeletal structure, in addition to my muscular system, and a nutrition outlook that totally resonated with our Real Food approach to eating. I followed the blog closely as my belly grew and grew. And as my baby grew, so did my confidence in my choices, my understanding of what my body was capable of, and the birth I wanted.

While I didn’t get the exact birth I wanted, I was able to have an unmedicated birth that didn’t require any intervention. I had planned a birth center experience but my son came 5 weeks early and so my entire plan went out the window and we had to come up with a new plan. Luckily, I was prepared. I had trained for birth, mentally and physically, so I was ready.

What I wasn’t ready for was my postpartum

experience. I was prepped for birth but not for what happened next. This was when I truly fell in love with BIRTHFIT and it changed the course of my entire career.

I went back to working out (at full force) WAY too early without the proper support and understanding of what had happened to my body from the inside out. I suffered from postpartum depression as well as anxiety about nursing. I saw that our system was missing the care and nurturing place for moms after having baby. There wasn’t a space for moms to vent, learn, and understand how to get breathing correctly, moving again, and regaining the control and stability of our bodies after baby arrives. And BIRTHFIT helped give me a remote place to learn and figure out what I needed to be looking for. It sparked my desire to join this amazing movement.

So in May when I left my old job to explore this vision of working with moms postpartum, as well as

prenatally, I set a goal to be a part of the BIRTHFIT movement. I started blogging at Raising Small Humans, I created a Strong Mom training class at our CrossFit gym and began working with moms one-on-one during their postpartum experience. I continued to follow BIRTHFIT online and in December connected with the BIRTHFIT Dallas leader, Jamie Wuistinger. She is a chiropractor at ProMotion Sports Chiropractic, fellow mama, and CrossFitter too. And honestly, a perfect match for my vision and energy.

So today, I am extremely thrilled to announce I am coming onboard with BIRTHFIT and BIRTHFIT Dallas as the head trainer for the DFW area! My dream of working with these firestarters of the BIRTHFIT movement is becoming a reality and I am thrilled to be joining the ranks of women making waves and shaking things up! Jamie and my vision for BIRTHFIT Dallas is coming to fruition with our first workshop of 2016.. We will be leading a 3 hour workshop on February 14 from 1-4pm, hosted at CrossFit 214, with a “Love you Baby. Love you Body” emphasis talking about how BIRTHFIT’s 4 pillars - movement, nutrition, chiropractic, and mindset - can be applied to mamas during pregnancy and how their partners can support them.

Welcome to BIRTHFIT, Raising Small Humans! Get ready for a wild ride!
