Part of my goal at Raising Small Humans is to support moms (and dads) who are taking life by the reigns to create a better world for their families and themselves. Being a self-employeed mama (my husband is too, for all intensive purposes) I appreciate when I get a referral or a personal accolade regarding my efforts. So when I saw a friend post something about a Kickstarter for a new book, I had to check it out! And I have to say, I'm smitten with the concept!

Amelia and Arik Cardenas set out to find a good Christmas book last year when their then 3 year old started taking an interest in Santa. The Spirit of Christmas gets lost on us with all the commercialism, buying, and naughty-or-nice lists. Our children make lists of toys they want, and parents make threats of "be good or Santa will bring you a lump of coal." Whether you are celebrating Christmas from a religious perspective, or from a societal perspective, Christmas is a time to spread joy, and kindness, and all-around good will.

So when Amelia and Arik didn't see a book that worked for them, they wrote one! (psst...that's freaking awesome by the way).

"The Spirit Post" is beautifully illustrated by Jessica Lanan. The books starts by telling you that the North Pole and everything in it is made up of Christmas Spirit, the elves, the raindeer, even Santa. As Christmas approaches, Santa realizes that the Christams Spirit at the North Pole is running low. So he starts shipping it in via the Owl Brigade, a cute stuffed aviator-looking owl.

Children are the ones who can send the Christmas Spirit to the North Pole by DOING good, not just being good when someone is watching. At the end of ever day, the child will write down all the good deeds they did that day on a little notpad (provided with the package), and then put it in their owls messanger bag. They deliver it when the children are asleep. In the morning, there may or may not be a little note or gift from Santa - it's the parents choice.

As a parent to one child who knows the truth about Santa, and one child who still doesn't understand the concept, I struggled with what our family would do regarding Santa as he got older. But this book seems to have done the work for me. YAY! It talkes about how Santa is made up of Christmas Spirit and that really can be all around us. Maybe Santa is a real person....or maybe Santa exists when the true spirit of Christmas is present. When doing good all the time out weighs only doing good when you are being watched.

This book is an amazing concept, but will only become reality if they raise the $14,900 in the Kickstarter. They have 4 more days to raise a little over $1400 dollars....they are 90% there. I hope this idea resnsate with you and your family and you will support this amazing book!

Please check out the kickstarter link....the video does a great job explaining the process, the book and what they are looking to do!

Way to go Amelia and Arik! I love it and will definitely be supporting your adventure!

I will leave you with this (the signature line of the book)

Be thoughtful. Be gentle. Be loving. Be kind..JPG
